Anthony Mangieri opened his first pizzeria in Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey, in 1996. Thirty years later his dough still gets about 30 hours before it meets the wood oven at 175 Orchard Street, and the national ranking has agreed five years running: Una Pizza Napoletana took No. 1 on every 50 Top Pizza USA list from 2022 to 2026. No other pizzeria has held the top spot once.
Thirty years, one dough
The shop has moved more than most: Point Pleasant Beach first, the East Village in 2004, San Francisco in 2010, and the Lower East Side of New York since 2018. The method stayed put. The dough is naturally leavened with no commercial yeast, and the menu is built almost entirely around Neapolitan pizza instead of a page of starters and pasta.
Christina Tobia Mangieri runs the front of house. The list stays short: a Marinara, a Margherita and a few rotating pies, with Italian tomatoes on the base and seasonal produce on the specials.
The 2026 top five behind the streak
| Spot | City | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Pizzeria Sei | Los Angeles | Tied No. 2; Tokyo-style Neapolitan since 2022 |
| Tony's Pizza Napoletana | San Francisco | Tied No. 2; seven ovens in North Beach |
| Razza | Jersey City | No. 3; wood ovens, bread and butter made in house |
| Truly Pizza | Dana Point | No. 4; up from ninth in 2025 |
| Francesco Martucci | Miami | No. 5; opened in Wynwood in January 2026 |
Tony Gemignani won the Neapolitan division of the World Pizza Cup in Naples in 2007, and two years later opened Tony's Pizza Napoletana at 1570 Stockton Street. The North Beach corner now runs seven ovens and a dozen regional styles.

William Joo and Jennifer So opened Pizzeria Sei on Pico Boulevard in 2022, cooking the Tokyo school of Neapolitan pizza that came out of Seirinkan and Savoy: a high-hydration dough, a thin center and a crust that holds its crunch under the cheese. A second, larger Sei has since opened in Palms.

Dan Richer bakes in wood ovens at Razza, 275 Grove Street in Jersey City, and serves his bread with butter made in house. He wrote the method down in The Joy of Pizza (2021) with Katie Parla.
Truly Pizza opened in Dana Point in June 2023 with World Pizza Champions John Arena, Chris Decker and Michael Vakneen behind the ovens. It splits the menu between round pies and square American artisan pans like the Smoke Vodka (sauce over cheese, stracciatella, lemon pesto), and it climbed from ninth in 2025 to fourth this year.
Francesco Martucci, the pizzaiolo behind I Masanielli in Caserta, opened his first US kitchen at 10 NE 27th Street in Wynwood in January 2026 and placed fifth in its first year. The tasting menu runs through his Calzone di scarola, the 7 Consistenze di cipolla and the Futuro di marinara before the non-pizza courses.

What the five-year streak rewards
Most of the chasers win on range: Tony's seven ovens, Truly's two formats, Sei's import of a whole regional school. Una wins on a short list and one dough, refined by the same pizzaiolo since 1996. That focus has held No. 1 five years running.
Una Pizza Napoletana is at 175 Orchard Street on the Lower East Side. Hours are short, so check before you go.
