I had wanted to visit this place for a long time while living in Shikoku, and with good reason. It is the first restaurant in Tokushima to be certified by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana. The walk from the city centre was a long one, a slow ascent through quiet streets, but each step brought me closer to my destination. Inside, the air hums with a playful energy. The walls, furniture and lighting all have a slightly funky flair that seems to nod at the freedom of Italian streets. And then there is the pizza. The Margherita is served with such precision that it feels as if you have been transported to Naples. Every ingredient, every fold of dough and every hint of char from the wood oven spoke of meticulous care. It's the kind of pizza that makes you pause between bites just to marvel at it. I had come alone for lunch and ordered a large Margherita pizza. The chef himself brought it to my table, a surprising and gracious gesture. This moment of attentiveness made it clear that this is very much an owner-run restaurant, shaped by someone who cares deeply about their craft. Learning that the owner used to be a professor at Kamiiishi School, and that he named the restaurant after himself, only added to its charm — it feels personal, eccentric and utterly authentic. Despite being tucked away in a residential area, the restaurant attracted a steady stream of visitors. I found myself envying the local students and driving school pupils who have such excellence on their doorstep. In Japan, where authentic Neapolitan pizza is rare, this is a real treat. The price is on the high side, but every bite justifies it. The ingredients, the technique and the atmosphere itself could not be replicated at home. Sugacchi is now firmly on my list of places to return to: a rare spot where effort, skill and character converge to create something unforgettable.

Amazing hospitality. We ordered the special carpaccio and it was simply delicious. Next came our pizza and pasta. Freshly backed pizza always tastes better but SUGATTii rocked it!! The Bismarck pizza was just heaven. Would totally recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area looking for a real Italian restaurant.

The cheese on the pizza was incredible! I say that as a European. Not like the average cheese in Japan. They provide an English menu if you need it. The dessert was amazing and personalised for my birthday.

Really nice Italian fare. The place is a little small, though, and you might need to make a reservation.
