  We were looking for the perfect place to eat pizza and see the Global Rainbow created by visual artist Yvette Matten Matteo Trattoria & Pizzeria was just what we desired. Fun location, reasonable prices and fast service. I do suggest Matteo consider having Big Storm, a local beer on tap.

  6:30 pm reservation. 8:15 pm food delivery. 1st dinner Cold & under cooked. 2nd meal $36 lamb chops (4- very small)-fried? 20-50% fat. See photo after meal. Before order we asked if broccholi was well cooked. Yes and it was almost raw. Waiter was great but kitchen was told at 6:30 we had an 8:00 pm reservation across the street 30 seconds away. Kitchen made no effort to accommodate us. 1 large group and another table of 4. Not busy! Part of order had to be cancelled due to time. We have NEVER written a negative review of any place in the world until now. Total disappointment.

  I dined here mid-December 2025 and the food was GREAT...tasty, real, homemade, well-presented and reminiscent of Italy. I came back with guests 3/7/26 and the food was a FRAUD and a POOR JOKE. First I noticed the menu had changed and my favorite stuff was gone but I thought maybe it was a seasonal food change. Also....no specials. The flavorless "Ceasar Salad" had a bottled dressing on the side. My ravioli with funghi and Italian sausage was CLEARLY pre-packaged, with crumbled Jimmy Dean type sausage in a salty goopy mushroom sauce reminiscent of Cambell's condensed mushroom soup. I got 6 pieces of this garbage for $37! Even if it had been $12 I still would have been disappointed but not angry at the consumer ripoff this clearly is. I expect the real deal (house made pasta and sauce) at that exorbitant price. The old Matteo's also had good portion sizes of rich food so you could enjoy leftovers at home. My husband's tortellini bolognese had flavorless bottled quality sauce on a pre-fab pasta. My friend's spaghetti marinara was merely crushed tomatoes from a can....no olive oil, no spices. Everything was clearly PRE-FAB stuff that any fool off the street working in their kitchen could assemble....and yet the prices were such that it really burns to have wasted good money on this fraud. I've had better frozen entrees from Trader Joes.

  Under new ownership and has gone down hill fast. They advertised on their facebook page that thursdays between 5 & 9 the happy hour was 1/2 off "appetizers, pizza and cocktails" (see attached photo). 4 of us were excited to give it a try. Walked in and seated on vinyl covered benches that are literally torn up. Waiter states pizzas not half off and "cocktails" were just these 4 bizarre drinks that no one wanted. Finally talked to owner and got ok on pizzas. Food lacked any real flavor and pizza bottom was soggy. We were 2 couples and waiter brings one check without even asking. Not sure he has ever waitered before as nothing was really done normal. I give the place 6 months before its closed, nothing like the prior owners. Good luck ...

  First time here, and from reading the ownership is new and authentic. It shows! The gnocchi was fantastic, it’s my favorite dish and I’m fairly picky, this was excellent. Had the arancini as an appetizer and the portions were generous and flavor was spot on. Love the location, great atmosphere inside and seating outside and inside. Look forward to coming back and trying more of the menu. Many other Italian restaurants don’t have what I’d consider authentic options. If the place you’re going to doesn’t know what gnocchi is, doesn’t carry prosciutto as an option for a meat, and doesn’t know the difference between cacio e pepe, carbonara, and Alfredo, you’re probably in the wrong spot.

  When it comes to Italian food in St Petersburg, there is always a place to go. Just march down Central Avenue and you can find a few places on one block. It depends on what you want. And the competition is there since many will claim to be home-made and fresh. Each will have their own style and recommendations. Nothing is formal. This is casual. And, depending on the time of day you go, the crowd will be different. As for Matteo you cannot miss it. It is on the corner of a block right next to a bar and clubs called Cock Tail...It is hard to miss. That place is open to everyone no matter what you might think. And the drinks are good. So, it is no surprise that rights next to it is Matteo. And that is a good thing to know. Make your reservation and you can get in (or sit outside) and have a good Italian meal. I tis everything you might imagine and nothing fancy or over done. The place to start is with an appetizer. There is a good variety to have. As for dinner, we selected several options and decided to share what we each had. Very typical of Italians if you ate at someone's house. You share your meals while having an extensive conversation. (Of course, a glass of wine does help.) It was a delightful meal. The team there is perfect. They can answer questions and make suggestions. The food is fresh and freshly made. As for the price, it is fine and as you would suggest. Overall, I will go back and bring some friends. It is a good place to have a good dinner and experience the crowd that are there. Best, after dinner, just step next door and get an evening cocktail (literally). You do not have to go far to have a good evening. Ciao...

  Sooooo…. We used to be regulars here. The half price entree Monday was great. I have probably eaten at this place more than all other restaurants in St Pete combined. Tonight’s experience was meh. No more half price Monday, new ownership, inflexible kitchen, smaller menu. The atmosphere and staff used to be so friendly and welcoming but we didn’t sense that this time. My daughter’s entree was lukewarm (to be fair she didn’t complain so the server couldn’t do anything about it). The focaccia looked so good but was cold and dry in the middle despite being warmed with melted cheese. Even the martinis seem smaller. There are so many choices in St Pete (Olivia’s is excellent). We had been looking forward to introducing our daughter to this gem but, sadly, it will be our last visit.

  The pizza with prosciutto was ordered by my wife. It was wet and limp like it had been sitting while we were having the salad, which was ok. We sent it back as inedible. Another pizza was brought out, it was burnt. Horrible. We left at this point. My gnocchi arrabiata was fair, not that spicy. Service was ok.
