We had a great last evening in Kyoto at Birdland. The bar is very cozy and intimate. The bartender duo were both delightful and very knowledgeable on cocktails and whiskey. We got some great recommendations for Japanese Whiskey from them and even had some cocktails made up on the spot based on our preferences. We also had some nice chats with them, both in Japanese and in English when our Japanese knowledge failed us. The atmosphere was great, and even without live music on a weekday we still greatly enjoyed our time. The prices were also very fair. Thank you so much for a great evening!

Checked out Birdland on a Friday and then again on a Saturday for a few drinks and some live music while visiting Kyoto from overseas. It was dark, moody, smokey, full of locals, and stocked with some fine local whisky - everything I wanted for a relaxing night out. The service from the owner and his son were excellent. Both were very friendly and personable with great selection of CDs playing in the background. The pianist on the Saturday night was incredibly talented and was even able to play a Bill Evans song upon request. This place is a gem, don’t skip it if you enjoy jazz and whisky.

Went there yesterday night (on a Friday) and sat at the bar corner nearest to the piano. Was served by the older of the two bartenders, which from the reviews I realised that was the father. He provided me an amazing service throughout the night, guided me through 3 different glasses of Japanese whiskey I did not know (I explicitly told him to avoid the beaten path). He knew very good English and was very kind. The live piano started about 20:30 and the atmosphere was very enjoyable. It was the best bar we have been in Japan! In the end we had to leave in a hurry for personal reasons, but please know that we are deeply grateful for the experience!

If you love whiskey, jazz and old school vibes...I highly recommend this place. Birdland is a time capsule that will instantly transport you to a better timeline. Effortless charm that is not "curated", and you will be slightly cooler just by having been there. The bar tenders are absolute masters of their craft, offering impeccable, effortless service, knowledge and warm demeanor. An absolute treasure.

I had an amazing time, even though I just stopped by for a quick drink. The senior bartender was super engaging and provided some great drink suggestions. I will definitely visit again!
