Finally made it to the original Frank Pepe’s location in New Haven. Definitely better than the other satellite locations I’ve been to in Manchester and at Mohegan Sun. Excellent pizza, but it definitely seems to be the most charred of all the New Haven style pizzas I’ve had. Was fun to eat at “The Spot”. Calabrese pizza was excellent. This one was the least charred, but still had a good crispy crust. Solid sauce, nice kick from the Calabrian chilis, and enjoyed the sausage and pepperoni. White Clam Pizza was definitely something to try once just to say I did - it was an experience for sure. Salty from the clams, but not too unpleasant. Since it doesn’t have any sauce, the texture ends up being a lot more crisp than the tomato sauced-pizzas. I actually enjoyed the difference. Garlic and oregano were nice touches, but still overwhelmingly tasted of clams. Would’ve been a lot better with some bacon to add another strong flavor. Quattro Formaggio pizza was very good. Wasn’t sure how the blend of mozzarella, Asiago, and Pecorino Romano would go with the goat cheese, but it worked well along with the tomatoes and basil.

Frank Pepe’s absolutely lived up to the legend. The pizza was incredible and cooked to perfection. Seeing the original oven still in use was awesome and it really adds to the experience. I also love the way they cut the pizza. It just hits different. The takeout process was seamless and everything was ready without any issues. I went during an off time so traffic and crowds may vary, but either way this is easily in my top 10 pizzas I have ever had. Truly a top notch experience.

As a pizza geek, I had to try what's widely regarded as top 3 pies in the US when I was swinging through Connecticut. The crust was great - undercarriage was very well cooked, loved the slightly uneven char around the perimeter. The mozz melted well, they put a good amount on but too much so it didn't drown out the flavor of the sauce and crust. Pecorino romano was great. Sauce was the highlight of the pie - it had a very sweet tasting notes and was light and simple. Awesome pie! was very glad I tried and definitely made the top 5 list for me. Wish there was a New-Haven style pizzeria in Utah!

We made a lunch stop here on our way to Boston, following a coworker’s recommendation—and it did not disappoint! The Pepe Salad and Veggie Pizza were both fantastic, bursting with flavor, and the portions were surprisingly generous. My wife and I easily shared a small salad and pizza and left completely satisfied. The prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity. A welcoming spot with delicious food that we’d gladly return to. Highly recommend if you’re passing through or just looking for a great, hearty meal!

Every bite reflects tradition, craftsmanship, and consistency. The atmosphere feels classic and authentic, adding to the overall experience of visiting one of New Haven’s most iconic food spots. Even when it’s busy, the energy is part of the charm, and the service remains efficient and friendly. A must-visit for pizza lovers. Truly some of the best pizza you can find—timeless, flavorful, and unforgettable.

My group of hiking friends decided to head to New Haven's Apizza. The challenge was to order the same pizza at Pepe's, Sally's and Modern and critique each and vote on which was best! We chose a cheese and a veggie. Results were a really fun time visiting all three and not surprisingly all were delicious but unique with each offering it's own style and taste. I'll keep our winner a secret and let you decide but if you're looking for a really fun trip with family or friends this should be on your list of fun things to do!!! I'll be back!

Heard about this place for decades but this was my first time in New Haven in 49 years! Perfectly cooked thin crust pizza. The white clam pizza with fresh clams is as advertised. The tomato pie with mozzarella excellent too. Will be back one day.

There are several New Haven pizza options. I’m glad we chose this one. This place feels like the one your grandparents took you to after a little league game - in a good way! The 16” double pepperoni was exactly what we wanted it to be - and plenty for 3 hungry adults. Washed it down with a couple carafes of Chianti. Absolutely no complaints. You’ll pay more and get a LOT less at your local sports bar. When you arrive, just get in line. No reservations. No list you need to get on. They manage the line well.
