Pizza near Piazza San Marco means escaping Venice's most concentrated tourist dining zone without turning lunch into another expedition. The square brings together St. Mark's Basilica, the Campanile, the Procuratie, and the Doge's Palace, so even a focused visit can absorb several hours.

When acqua alta affects the square, raised walkways and crowded pinch points change the simplest route. On ordinary days, leave through the Mercerie toward Rialto for the densest stream of shops, or cut west through San Marco's smaller calli for a quieter approach to the Accademia side.

The first menu facing the square is rarely the useful pizza decision. 1000 Gourmet is the closest substantial pizza option in our current walking group. Birraria La Corte asks for a longer walk toward Campo San Polo but makes sense for a seated meal away from the basilica crowds.

Venice rewards portable food, but eating while blocking a bridge or church step is a bad plan. For a quick format, look for pizza al taglio; for dinner, a full round pie gives you time to sit down after hours on stone floors and bridges.
