The best pizza in Helsinki is Neapolitan, wood-fired, and more serious than a city this far north has any right to be. Two of its pizzerias carry the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana stamp, the Naples certification that polices what counts as a true Neapolitan pizza, and the rest bake in ovens shipped in from Italy. Here are the Helsinki spots worth the walk in the cold.
OpenPizzaMap tracks 3958 hand-picked pizzerias across 313 cities. Helsinki's short list punches above its latitude.
What makes Helsinki's pizza Neapolitan
The city's strongest spots follow the Neapolitan playbook: a soft, wet dough, a fast bake in a wood oven, a blistered rim. Two of them, Via Tribunali and Napule, hold the Neapolitan certification from the Naples-based AVPN, which sets the flour, the shaping, and the oven a pizza has to use to call itself verace. The others import the hardware: Forni Valoriani and Izzo ovens, the same names you find in Campania.

The shortlist
Via Tribunali is the anchor. On Sofiankatu 4 in the center, it is AVPN-certified, wood-fired, and by far the most-reviewed pizza in town, holding a 4.5 across more than 3,000 Google ratings, with four locations spread over Katajanokka, Kallio, and Punavuori.
Forza, on Pursimiehenkatu in Punavuori, hand-stretches its dough and bakes it in a white-tiled Forni Valoriani oven for a light, chewy crust. It sits at 4.5 across nearly 800 ratings, in a pale-green space that looks more Nordic than Neapolitan.
Napule Pizzeria Napoletana sits at Kaivokatu 8, steps from the central station, and is the city's other AVPN-certified spot. It has gathered more than 1,600 ratings, and its Parmigiana pizza is the order regulars point you to.
Pizzeria Luca is the one worth crossing the water for, out on the island of Lauttasaari at Lauttasaarentie 28, where a copper Izzo oven turns out a dough people rate above the toppings. It holds a 4.1 across close to 1,000 ratings.
One more to watch: Villa Severino on Tatti is a newer arrival doing Neapolitan rounds and house-made gelato, still building its count but already drawing a crowd.
We ordered these by what people who came for the pizza actually thought, weighing thousands of ratings rather than the loudest single review, so the spot with a soft base and a fair line beats the one with the prettiest photo.
